HOW DO COMPETITIVE LEVELS AND DANCER CARDS WORK?
Information taken from the RSOBHD Rule Book. Competitive dancers must register for dancer cards which allow them to compete at any RSOBHD sanctioned event. Each level has it’s own card and is stamped at the competition where a dancer achieves a qualifying placement. Cards are renewed annually. Dancers must also submit a change of status form when advancing to the next level.
This category is for introducing young dancers to competitive dancing. Dancers under seven years old can participate until they turn seven, after which they will be classified as Beginner dancers and can no longer enter Primary events.
There are only four events in the Primary category:
Pas de Basque, Pas de Basque & High Cuts, Highland Fling, Sword Dance
A dancer retains this status until they either A) win a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd prize in six separate Beginner competitions, or B) 12 months after their first Beginner stamp, whichever comes later.
After this, they are classified as a Novice dancer and are no longer eligible for Beginner events.
Beginners are limited to:
Fling, Sword, Seann Truibhas, Reel, Flora, Lilt & Special/Trophy Fling
This status is held until the competitor either A) wins a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd prize in six separate Novice competitions, or B) 12 months after their first Novice stamp, whichever is later.
After this, the competitor is classified as an Intermediate dancer and is no longer eligible for Novice events.
Novices are limited to:
Fling, Sword, Seann Truibhas, Reel, Flora, Lilt & Special/Trophy Fling
This status is held until the competitor either A) wins a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd prize in six separate Intermediate competitions, or B) 12 months after their first Intermediate stamp, whichever comes later.
After this, the competitor is classified as a Premier dancer and can no longer enter Intermediate events.
Intermediates are limited to:
Fling, Sword, Seann Triubhas, Reel, Flora, Lilt, Barracks, Laddie, Hornpipe & Jig
This status is held by the competitor upon the successful completion of Intermediate. Premier dancer’s returning to competition following a hiatus, however extended, must return to the Premier level.
Premier dancers may compete in regular competition, Pre-Championship, Championship & Premiership events.
Premier dancers are not limited to specific dances except in the case of Pre-Championships (short step Highlands), Championships (RSOBHD current steps) & Premierships (RSOBHD current dances/steps).
