The scholarship is open to any Premier dancer registered with ScotDance Canada who is in good standing (holds a current year RSOBHD dance card). Candidates may choose to perform “A Tribute to JL McKenzie” (6 steps) at an advertised event such as a competition, recital, or other performance where an audience is in attendance, OR submit a video via a YouTube link. Candidates must be in full highland kilt competition attire.

The Loree Martin Vellner Highland Dancing Scholarship, in the amount of $1500 is open to any past or current competitive dancer who holds a current Examining Body status (Associate/Member/Fellow) and is or will be attending any post-graduate institution in Canada in the year of the application. Proof of attendance (receipt for tuition) will be required of the successful applicant. (Previous Recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to apply).

To celebrate and perpetuate the proud 60-year legacy of Dr. Eileen Pottie Forrester as a revered Cape Breton dancer, teacher, and worldwide mentor, the Forrester School of Dance announced in November 2025 the establishment of a new annual high school scholarship and education program for deserving dancers. The initiative aims to provide financial support to graduating high school dancers who embody the spirit and dedication of its namesake. There will be two $1,000 scholarships awarded for 2026.
